Contentment ≠ Happiness

I asked them, "Are you people happy?"

They all reply, "Yes, I am."

Then I ask, "But don't you people want any more? Don't you want to keep on growing, acquiring more, more fame, more knowledge, more money?"

And they all reply, "Of course."

Then I say, "So, you're not happy." And they change the subject.

If I am happy I may not necessarily be content, for some instances of happiness may be short-lived and I would want more to satisfy myself. Conversely, if I am content with my environment and what I am doing in my life, happiness takes on a more consolidated form.

It has been reported that some of the poorest people in the world are also the happiest among all human beings - go figure.

Having said that, the motivation for self-improvement is a virtue, and in my opinion, it is not wrong to want to have more knowledge, money or even fame as long as they are achieved scrupulously and are put to eventual good use.

Giving up what we want for what we and others really need is another virtue, too.

Hmm, so people who do not want more fame more knowledge and more money are actually happy people?
Then I think the entire world there is no happy people, because humans naturally want a better standard of living (:

Oh, Its the sad times that make happy times stand out :D.

What is happiness, when you have not tasted sadness huh? :D
