School's out, and I intend to blog at least a few times a week now...school ended for me on 13th May and my holidays last till 20th July...and oh by the way i've begun putting up recordings and MIDI of my compositions on IMEEM, and the playlist appears just to the LEFT of this post (and RIGHT to your eyes, reader!) Enjoy!
On the 9th April (one day after my Birthday!!) I performed with the entire music department for this huge gala concert featuring Beethoven's 9th Symphony 'Ode to Joy'...as a bass trombonist...having an entire choir behind you is a rather...nice feeling? haha. The performance is on YouTube if i'm not wrong...the wonders of technology...here's a fragment of it...was held at our very own favourite Victoria Concert Hall.
I think I may choose to quit my school's orchestra and band; the third year (which begins soon enough) will put quite alot of stress and work on me. Anyway it's been great fun playing in there for two academic years, thanks to my friends and the conductors in the two groups! That would also mean that i might have to go over to choir...Let me think about it first yea haha...
Many happenings..
On the 17th May I premiered my work for the first time in PUBLIC. "Threnody - in memory of Thaddeus Cheong" (composed in memory of the late Thaddeus Cheong after he died after completing a triathlon tryout..) That was with CHSSB (Catholic High School Symphony Band) and i'm soooo grateful to the band members and especially their resident conductor, Mr Leonard Tan for his amazing guidance and opportunity offered to me! It was also the first time i took to the stage as a composer cum conductor...and SIA LA i forgot to ask the band to stand up after the performance!! How shameful...hope not too many people noticed hah. I went backstage and told Mr Tan about it and he replied so reassuringly, "It's okay. I've done worse things." Somehow he really made me feel better...By the way, Thaddeus, rest in peace! That piece is dedicated to you forever...
More Happenings...
Me and my fellow year two composer Tan Wen-Bin were asked to put up two arrangements of Malay folk songs for a Peranakan event held right in NAFA's own art galleries; our music, which was arranged for string quartet, was premiered and recorded and displayed after that as part of the 'Peranakan Visual Journal" exhibition that took place for about two weeks. Both pieces of music received praise and we got to make new friends with the new string quartet too! Hehe I'll upload the video once I figure out how to upload a .VOB video onto YouTube...any suggestions on how to do that?
Happenings again...
There is also a possible upcoming concert on the 30th August (date unconfirmed) where I am asked to write something for a newly formed string ensemble...details later! And i've already started work on a band piece...a commission by OPWO (Orchid Park Wind Orchestra) for some anniversary concert at the Esplanade next year..
And hey i've developed a new passion for Bossanova too! If you wanna know what it is just go www.wikipedia.com, i bet they can explain it better than I do -.- and to get a taste of what its like visit my IMEEM homepage...you can access it thru the playlist at the side..i've a playlist of my favourite bossanova music! Whee!
And...
WAHAHAHAHA. I've LEARNT TO DOTA XD
I don't look like the kind of gamer sort to you people right...haha.
And i've also finished all the Warcraft III campaign missions from the Reign of Chaos and Frozen Throne in less than two months. Looks like I haven't lost my gaming instinct just yet...Thanks to Wen-Bin and Jeremy Wong for teaching me the basics! heeehee.
I should be posting more soon...right now in the holidays i'm rather bored..and lonely? Haha its natural..makes me feel abit emo too... will post stuff closer to my heart the next time round...and mebbe a few stories to go around during these holidays too... :D
