Today i read this passage from the book "It's Been a Good Life", which is an autobiography of one of the most revered science fiction writers in history, Issac Asimov. He wrote this:"I once listened to a [black] woman grow eloquent over the terrible way in which the Gentiles [Israelites] did nothing to save the Jews of Europe [during the 2nd World War]. "You can't trust Gentiles," she said. I let some time elapse and then asked suddenly, "What are you doing to help the blacks in their fight for civil rights?" "Listen," she said," I have my own problems." And I said, "So did the Gentiles." But she only stared at me blankly. She didn't get the point at all...The whole world seems to live under the banner: "Freedom is wonderful - but only for me." "
the weather is turning awry. jus watch the news everyday and u can now see numerous reports of a snowstorm in one part of the world, jus to be contrasted by a unusually freaking hot summer in another part of the world. yet we complain jus at the news of placing a price on plastic bags, which are certainly not environmentally friendly. haiz. jus look at the weather in our own country these days...a burning hot morning and a freezing cold downpour in the afternoon...is this what we call normal?? especially in the middle of APRIL?
let us re-examine ourselves...we often perform this ritual named 'NATO'. it stands for 'No Action Talk Only'...sure we do see some people standing up and doing something to save our environment...but it is not enough! all of us are needed to do this...cos all of us live on the earth. this is our home...where are you gonna move to when the earth dies? mars? venus? we can always help by not using so much water, using less electricity (by turning off what is not needed and esp those tvs and audio systems and computers left on overnight) and jus DUN USE THOSE PLASTIC BAGS. you might argue," i wont be around by the time the earth dies'. are u really really sure? within ten years of my life the weather has turned from a predictable pattern to a darn stupid unstable weather pattern...what next? singapore gets flooded by the rising sea levels and drowns?
Please let us stop saying that 'i cant help, i have my own problems/i'm just one person'. 1person+1+1+1+1+1.....= all the people in the world right? if everyone chips in...we can really save the world. like captain planet. oh btw i do wish they bring back the captain planet cartoons...they're really good for educating the young ones of the imminent peril befalling our planet...
Ya. Go do smth abt it. like turn off those phantom power consuming devices now. helps u save $$$ too. Better now than never. :D
