Haha on tuesday and wednesday evenings i've been going down to NUS for rehearsals...namely thai classical music rehearsals. my ethnomusic teacher in nafa also teaches in NUS, so he invited us nafa ppl to join the NUS thai classical music ensemble for a performance...we're performing on the 23rd april at the University Cultural Centre for the thai princess's state visit to Singapore..open to invited guests only...
our instructor very stress (cos its such an important project)...can tell although she try to be as patient and friendly with us. she's KOONG Paphutsorn Wongratanapitak (i noe its a long name) and she's really quite a pro...she remembers all the notes by heart! whereas we fumble and fumble with the unfamillar instruments...lolx. as i love ethnic music all the more it's good experience for me...
i feel tht thai music feels like a combination of chinese and buddhist music...probably buddhist music is derived from thai music. Koong Paphutsorn also said tht many thai instruments are derived from chinese musical instruments...there's a few tht looks like the yangqin and erhu...
mainly i'm playing on this: the Khawng Wong Lek....

LOLX of cuz tht guy's not me. not in 8294612736204 million years. but yea tht's the instrument...a circular row of gongs (or pots lol) tht u have to twist ur body arnd to play...cute high pitched sparkling sounds come out of it...
mm yea and AJC choir is performing in a concert on the 16e April at the esplanade...nite i guess...there's still tix! $16 and $21...(not N16 and R21 la!) i'm going for free cos i helped them word-set their set piece...yea tht's all fer now...
